Today I studied from Graphic L.A. by Robh Ruppel. His book is mainly a picture book but has key concepts for artists. First we learn that what we see can been seen and made up of all different shapes or symbols. Using simples shapes, symbols, and textures can help simplify and get main ideas/concepts across to viewers. It can be very useful to break things down into the fewest geometric shapes and values possible to really understand what you see. Then being able to nail value will create reality. You can essentially have any graphic representation and if it's values are on point the image has established realism.
